Count It All Joy

2My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;3Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.4But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. (James 1:2-4) King James Version

I remember going to class two days after my father was kidnapped couple years ago, and telling my teacher that the reason why I had to miss an exam was because my father was kidnapped that weekend and I was in no emotional state of mind to study for the exam. She looked at me as if I was from another planet because she could not wrap her mind around what I was telling her. How do deal with a situation like this Laura? Do you need to take the rest of the week off?  Do you need to see a therapist? Do you need someone to talk to? No, Dr. Murphy, I’ll be alright, I told her, When you are faced with situations that are beyond your control, you learn to leave it all in God’s hands.

This past Saturday, I had the opportunity to listen to the most amazing sermon  “Count it all joy.” The Scripture is found in James 1: 2-4

2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds,  3 because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.  4 Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.  ( NIV Version)

Sometimes when we are faced with trials we feel as if the situation that we are in is taking control over us. We focus so much on the problem, that we allow ourself to be destroyed by something that was meant to actually make us stronger. ” Trials are not meant to defeat us, but to be defeated.” What we fail to realize is that God purposely gives us trials in order to strengthen us, and make us the person that he wants us to be. The sole purpose of trials are to develop us and make us stronger.

Think of your life as a muscle. The more you work out, the stronger your muscles become, then you are able to lift heavier weights. The same goes for our lives, the more trials we overcome, the stronger we become, then we are able to handle more difficulties. Do not allow your problems, your situations, your issues to overpower you. Count it all joy, Count it all as a blessing because God has handpicked you, to make you stronger. No matter what it is that is holding you down, let it go and allow yourself to grow into this mature and complete person that God intended us to be.
